Chelsea are currently 14th in the Premier League (PL) points table with only one win in six games this season and the problems only seem to grow bigger and bigger for head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues spent around €460 million during the summer transfer window but there seems to be no end to their misery as they were handed a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Talking after the match, the Argentine stated that the team need to grow up as he believes that most of the players in the team need time to adjust to the new atmosphere.

“We need to grow up like a team, not only in an individual way,” Chelsea’s head coach said. “I think players like Nico who are so young and feeling the Premier League, they need time.

“In this type of game, we are competing and want to win and football is about winning. But also players, when they are young, need to learn, and experience and make mistakes. That’s why we feel disappointed as there are too many situations like this.”

Chelsea had their fair share of struggle against Villa. Right-back Malo Gusto was shown a red card in the 58th minute. The visitors took advantage of a 10-man Chelsea with Ollie Watkins finding the back of the net during the 73rd minute.

Unai Emery, who previously coached another PL club Arsenal, expressed his happiness after his side moved up to sixth place.

“The clean sheet is important,” Villa’s manager said. “We have to feel good defensively and feel comfortable when we try to control possession and the game. These three points are very important for us to try and keep the balance in the Premier League.”

Pochettino’s men have now gone three matches without scoring a goal and the pressure is growing on him.

Apart from their on-field struggles, Chelsea are also having a hard time off the field with some of their key players like Nkunku, skipper Reece James, and Wesley Fofana out and the dates of their return have not been determined yet.
